Program structure
PhD candidates will enrol as PhD students in Economics at the FU Berlin. Exceptionally, and when supervised by a professor from the department of Political Science, students will do their PhD in this department. EQUALFIN, as a member of the FU Dahlem Research School aims at promoting good conditions for doctoral research, including supervision contracts with a set of mutually binding rules.
To ensure a smooth and successful PhD journey and completion during the funding period, only a select number of courses are set to be mandatory. The focus is on the research colloquium, where students will present their ongoing work every semester, and on a series of workshops tailored to the research projects and specific demands of the PhD students. Optional supplementary courses can be chosen to enrich your academic knowledge
Introductory phase:
- Onboarding workshop (mandatory)
- Lecture series with all senior academic members of EQUALFIN involved (mandatory)
- One cooperatively offered course on finance and development, or a course of your PhD supervisor
Continuosly:
- Research colloquium to present your ongoing research once per semester
- Thematic mini-workshops tailored to the research projects and related demands of the PhD students (2-3 day courses)
Complementary:
- Method courses offered by the Berlin School of Economics, where possible
- The FU Dahlem Research School offers a broad qualification program for scientific work such as writing and presenting, acquiring research funding and career planning
